Bluff Knoll Bluff Knoll

Here I’m using ArtRage in conjunction with an Intuos Drawing Tablet to produce my digital picture of Bluff Knoll which is the highest point of the Stirling Ranges in Western Australia. When I was living, shearing, and share-farming near the town of Ongerup, the distant Stirling Range was always part of the day-to-day scenery. On rare occasions, Bluff Knoll would be covered with snow.

Nullabor Sunrise   Nullarbor Sunrise

I love to travel the Eyre Highway with its ever-changing scenery, vast distances, and open horizons. This picture, using Sketch Book was inspired by the sun rising over the Nullarbor Plains. We left Border Village before dawn and were travelling eastward toward Ceduna in South Australia. I like to use Sketch Book’s ‘blender’ to soften the borders between different shades.

Island View   Garden Island

This is the view of Garden Island from Pt John. Here I’ve used Fresh Paint for the initial base, then smoothed the brush marks with ‘blender” to soften the picture.

Autumn Sky

Island View

This is a similar setting but I’ve used oil paints in ArtRage to develop a different combination which has been edited and smoothed with ‘blender’.

Rice Fields

This painting was inspired by a photograph of rice fields in the mountain regions of Vietnam. There’s a mountain range in the distance but the main feature is the huge block mountain, possibly the core of a long extinct volcano, in the middle.

golden-hills    Summer Evening

Created with Sketchbook, this drawing aims to capture the vivid colours of a late summer evening as we were driving back home after a visit to Canyon Farm.

evening-glow-sb   Evening Glow

I used Fresh Paint as the digital medium for this picture which I’ve called “Evening Glow”. The foreground is a vineyard (shades of green). The middle represents the dried fields of different coloured grasses. On the horizon, is portion of a distant mountain range. Above the mountain range is a multi-coloured sky reflecting the rays of the sunset.

dowds-lane   Dowds Lane

This is a picture of farmland along Dowd’s Lane which is about 18 kilometres north of Heathcote. I’ve used the Artrage tracing facility to paint the scene based on a photo. The image is loaded onto a canvas, then using the colour selector tool to get an approximate matching I’ve created this oil painting.

  Big Hill Tunnel

I’ve used Sketchbook to create this modernistic depiction of Big Hill tunnel which is part of the rail link between Bendigo and Castlemaine in Victoria. The tunnel was built by gold miners during the late 1800’s using the tools and equipment that were available at that time. Very labour intensive work requiring a great deal of expertise and physical effort.

Created with Microsoft Fresh Paint   McIvor Dawn

I’ve used Fresh Paint to create this picture of Dawn over the McIvor Range. The sky was actually green and the clouds orange. Probably because the Sun had already risen on the other side of the mountains. Hence the golden glow outlining the top.
